Former Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault

A New York court sentenced former Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison on September 23 for the 2006 sexual assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley.

Weinstein, 74, was convicted of a first-degree criminal sexual act during a 2025 retrial for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley at his Manhattan apartment in 2006.

In 2020, Weinstein was also sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexual assault against Haley and for sexual misconduct against aspiring actress Jessica Mann, but in 2024 New York State's highest court overturned that conviction.

In the 2025 retrial, jurors found him guilty on the charge involving Haley, but could not reach a verdict on the charge involving Jessica Mann.

Weinstein has denied sexually assaulting women and engaging in non-consensual sex.

In addition, Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison in California in 2022 on sexual offense charges.

Weinstein's conviction became an important milestone for the #MeToo movement, which encouraged women to speak out about allegations of sexual misconduct by powerful men.
