It is reported that two-sided clashes between the military junta and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) are intensifying in Momeik Township, northern Shan State.

Starting on the morning of September 28, exchanges of fire occurred near a military junta camp close to Shwe Myint Tin Pagoda at the exit of Momeik town, and fighting has continued through this morning, it is reported.

"The fighting has been going on for 3 days. After the KIA captured the camp at the town's exit, planes have been coming to drop bombs, and it's just noise. The shooting hasn't stopped. Given the situation, the fighting is in a position to enter the town," a Momeik town resident said.

Momeik town is a town that the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) captured during Operation 1027, and due to pressure from the Chinese government, it had to be handed back to the military junta in late 2025.

"The military has only retaken the town itself, not the village areas. The village areas are controlled by the KIA," a resident said.

Currently, residents in Momeik town are preparing to flee the fighting, and it is reported that the military junta's camp has also been captured by revolutionary forces.
