Prostitution businesses are reportedly operating openly on the streets in Thingangyun Township

According to local residents, prostitution businesses are operating openly and extensively near 'Hi Hotel' in Z/ South Ward, Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region, and young women preparing to go abroad are among those involved.

Near Z/ South Ward in Thingangyun Township, some war-displaced persons and teenage young women are engaging in prostitution around bus stops and near hotels, mingling with alcohol-drinking circles of motorcycle taxi drivers, and the streets remain crowded with people until after 8 PM, it is said.

"Even when elders from the ward walk by, they ask 'Uncle, are you going?' and negotiate prices since the market hasn't opened yet. With young people, there's even hand-pulling happening. Because of them, some girls who get off at bus stops and walk back into the ward are being harassed under the assumption that they are prostitutes," a local resident said.

In the current location, there are many young women who have come from various regions, and most earn money through such work, with some having left for abroad, it is said.

"As far as we know, some come here to work, then leave for Oman or Dubai. It's become like a place with an official license. Lately, it's become very brazen," another local resident said.

There have been criticisms that Thingangyun Township Myoma Police Station does not arrest those engaged in such activities because it receives line fees, and according to local residents, the women engaged in prostitution and the police are quite familiar with each other.

Currently, local ward residents are facing various mental distresses, and since police personnel are also enjoying themselves with prostitutes, there is no one to help resolve the situation, it is known.
