Rabid Dog Bites 5 Including a School Teacher, Hospitalized for Treatment

In Paung Township, Mon State, at least five local residents, including a school teacher, have been bitten by a rabid dog and have been hospitalized for treatment.

This morning, August 29, a rabid dog appeared in Ottahtaw Village and bit five people, according to reports.

"The dog came running from the Nyaungwaing side. People chased it, and as it ran, it bit whoever it encountered on the way. A young school teacher was also bitten. Fearing they might develop rabies, all of them were taken to the hospital and given injections, and they are now under observation. As for the dog, people beat it to death near the library," a local resident said.

Those bitten by the rabid dog are identified as Daw Khaing Oo, a teacher from Ottahtaw Village's Basic Education High School; Daw Moe Moe Khaing from Ward No. 9; Ma Pa Pa from Ward No. 8; U Tun Shwe from Zaritchaungpalin Village; and Ma Umma Aye from Ward No. 2.

The dog bite victims have been sent to Paung Township Hospital for medical treatment. It is also reported that stray dogs along the roads in Paung Township are increasing in number and have been seen in various places in recent days.
