It is learned that a man in Kama Kalut model village, Kyauktan Township, Yangon Region, who shot a dog that climbed onto his roof with a pellet gun, died after police arrested and beat him, with the beating going too far.

On October 6, a dog climbed onto the roof of a house, so the homeowner shot it with a pellet gun. Because the dog's owner was dissatisfied, he paid the community police at Kyauktan Police Station to have him arrested, it is learned.

"When the dog owner reported it to the police, the police went and arrested him and they beat him in a group at the station. Injuries all over his body — his head, his back, his whole body. They said his lungs were affected too. When he lost consciousness, they washed the blood coming from his mouth with water and took him to Mingalun Hospital. They didn't inform the family when they took him to the hospital. The family only found out after hearing the news and going to the hospital," a local said.

Because he did not regain consciousness at Mingalun Hospital, he was transferred again to Kyauktan Township Hospital for treatment, but he died around 7 p.m. on October 7, it is learned.

"The injuries from the beating were severe. They were cruel enough to kill a person. They came to negotiate with the family with money to close the case because they were afraid of going to prison. The station chief is also paying those above him to avoid punishment," a person close to the police said.

Regarding the death, it is learned that Kyauktan Police Station negotiated with the family for 70 million kyats, and it is learned that the police station has been bribing senior officials of the military junta that seized power to reduce the punishment for the deputy police inspector and police privates who committed the act, and that there has not yet been any arrest or detention of the perpetrators.
