Mandalay rice prices triple, causing public hardship.
The price of a sack of rice has now exceeded 120,000 kyats. The prices of basic foodstuffs such as cooking oil and beans are also rising. The main reasons are the blockades of transportation routes due to military conflict and the depreciation of the kyat.
Health organizations have warned that the majority of the public can now only afford about one meal a day and that cases of child malnutrition are increasing.
