MNDAA releases over 100 more captured military junta troops from Operation 1027
August 31
The Kokang group MNDAA has released more than 100 captured military junta troops who were detained during Operation 1027 in northern Shan State, according to sources.
Following a meeting between top leaders of MNDAA and the military junta on July 14, the MNDAA side has been releasing detained prisoners of war on a monthly basis, sources said.
On August 30, yesterday afternoon, 102 detained prisoners of war were released, according to sources.
"Some have returned to Lashio. Some are receiving medical treatment at military hospitals. They release them every month. Some missing persons are still unreachable, while others have made contact with their families. In June, they released over 200. Since the meeting, they've been releasing them every month. I've heard there are over a thousand detainees," a local resident said.
After MNDAA captured Lashio during Operation 1027, it detained over 6,000 prisoners of war and family members, of whom more than 5,000 have already been released, according to sources.
Following Operation 1027, some military junta troops and family members have lost contact and remain missing, sources said.
