The Salween River water level in Hpa-An has reportedly exceeded the town's danger mark by 2 feet 9 inches.

According to measurements taken at 6:30 this morning, August 31, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has announced that the water level could rise by about 6 inches above its current level within the next day.

"The town's wards are flooded, so 4 relief camps have been opened. The water isn't receding; it's rising again. More than 3,000 people are affected by the floods. There have been no drowning deaths. However, at the relief camps, there are adults and children suffering from fever due to seasonal flu," a local resident told MyoTaw.

Previously, on August 13, the Salween River water level had reached nearly 3 feet above Hpa-An's danger mark, and now it has exceeded the danger mark for the second time, it is understood.

"During the first time the danger mark was exceeded, the town's wards were flooded. According to records, there were 849 affected households and 3,411 people. Now that the danger mark has been reached for the second time, some wards are already being evacuated," another local resident added.

According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology's announcement dated today, August 31, the Salween River water level could reach up to 3 feet 3 inches above Hpa-An's danger mark on September 1, which would be about 4 inches higher than the first time the danger mark was exceeded.
