Two Women Jailed Six Months Each for Falsely Reporting Armed Robbery to Hide 4.5 Million Kyats in Debt from Husband

Two women sentenced to six months in prison each for falsely reporting a robbery, fearing their husbands would find out about a 4.5 million kyat debt

October 6

It is learned that two women who falsely reported to the administrator in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay, that they had been robbed at knifepoint were each sentenced by the Patheingyi Township Court to six months' imprisonment with hard labor.

It is said that at around 11 a.m. on September 5, at a house on Siddhi Aung Road in Kone Tan Quarter, Nan-U Lwin Village Tract, Patheingyi Township, while the husband was absent, six unidentified men arrived carrying a short firearm and short and long knives, along with a gray Mark 2 car and one motorcycle, and committed the robbery.

At the time of the robbery, only the wife and a female domestic worker were at home, and the robbers demanded 15 million kyats, but the wife said they did not have it. They then broke open a locked wardrobe in the bedroom with a hammer and took 10 million kyats, two mobile phones, and the earrings worn by the wife before fleeing, according to what was reported to the administrator.

Because of that report, police forces blocked roads and conducted searches and inspections, and also questioned the female homeowner, who stated that she had falsely reported it because she owed 4.5 million kyats for clothing and was afraid her husband would find out, it is learned.

Because the Patheingyi Town Police Station chief filed a complaint as the plaintiff against the female homeowner and the domestic worker who made the false report, it is learned that the Patheingyi Township Court issued an order on September 6, today, for each of them to serve six months' imprisonment with hard labor under Section 182 of the Penal Code.
