It is reported that at least 70 people have died after heavy rainfall and storms caused flooding and landslides in India and neighboring Nepal.

According to news reports on September 27, 56 people died in India and 14 in Nepal, while 11 more people are missing in Nepal, and authorities have warned that flash floods could occur again.

In India's northern state of Uttarakhand, record rainfall of up to 66.5 millimeters fell from September 25 to the morning of September 27, causing 56 deaths and damaging more than 1,000 homes, state relief commissioner Hirendra Singh Batsa Yashod confirmed.

Major rivers, including the Ganges, have also risen above warning levels, so emergency rescue operations are being accelerated, it is said.

Similarly, in Nepal, 49 of 77 districts have been warned of flood risk, and flooding of the Rapti River has damaged a 40-megawatt hydropower project, while electricity and communication lines have been cut in four districts, including Manang and Mustang.

In addition, officials have announced that an avalanche occurred at the Himlung Himal base camp in northern Nepal, and 10 local workers preparing the camp for foreign climbers are still missing.
