North Korean leader Kim Jong Un currently weighs more than 300 pounds and is in a state of extreme obesity, South Korea's intelligence agency disclosed and stated on September 30.

Kim Jong Un, who is known to smoke excessively, is at very high risk of developing heart and vascular diseases, but he is still able to carry out normal activities, including climbing stairs, without difficulty, South Korean lawmaker Yoon Kun-young said, citing intelligence data.

In addition, because Kim Jong Un is being closely monitored by a dedicated medical team, no obvious signs of health problems are currently being observed, it was said.

Concerns about Kim Jong Un's health also rose in 2020. At that time, Kim Jong Un did not attend the commemorative ceremony for the birthday of his grandfather Kim Il Sung and disappeared from public view for about 20 days, leading to speculation that his health condition was serious.

Kim Jong Un's father, Kim Jong Il, and his grandfather, Kim Il Sung, were also obese and smokers, and both died of heart disease.

In North Korea, which possesses nuclear weapons, if the leader were to die suddenly, problems related to succession of power and national stability could arise on a large scale, which is also why Kim Jong Un's health is constantly being monitored by the international community.

Due to international sanctions and economic difficulties, the people of North Korea have long been suffering severely from food shortages, but Kim Jong Un is known to particularly enjoy eating very expensive, high-value foods such as caviar, lobster, and foie gras, chef Paul Smart, who once worked alongside Kim Jong Un's chefs, has said.
