Nepal hit by fresh flash floods and landslides, five missing
Five people missing after sudden floods and landslides strike Nepal again
October 12
Another sudden flash flood has occurred in Nepal, leaving at least five people missing, with the Nepali army deployed to affected areas to carry out emergency search and rescue operations.
Officials from the Nepali army said that on October 11, landslides caused soil and sand to block the river, leading to flooding that triggered mudslides in the Gorkha district of central Nepal.
Video footage shows muddy water flowing with strong force through a valley surrounded by mountains, with nearby residents urgently evacuating to higher ground for safety.
In addition, Nepali authorities have issued emergency warnings urging residents living along riverbanks to evacuate to safe areas as quickly as possible.
Local media reported that the natural disaster caused around 40 homes and some bridges to be swept away and destroyed by the water, and a hydroelectric facility was also damaged.
The Nepali army has confirmed that troops have so far been able to safely rescue more than 40 trapped residents from danger.
Last August, similar massive flash floods occurred in areas bordering China, killing 1,455 people on the Nepali side, with more than 5,200 people, including five Japanese nationals, still missing.
