Yesterday, on July 4, US President Donald Trump held a nearly 90-minute phone discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering to help bring the Ukraine war to a swift end. He also reportedly held a phone discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

This offer came as part of Trump's plan to attend the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey next week, and the Kremlin stated that he reaffirmed readiness to quickly end the fighting and find ways to overcome the crisis.

The Russian side described the discussion as businesslike and constructive, adding that Russia is also seeking a political and diplomatic solution that takes into account its fundamental principles.

On the other hand, although Russian generals reported to Putin on July 3 that they had captured the strategic city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian military command rejected this on July 4, stating that Ukrainian forces still maintain control of the city.

Currently, Russia is demanding full control over the entire Donbas region to halt the war, while Ukraine has completely rejected this. Last June, Zelenskyy offered to meet Putin in person for talks, but Putin declined.
