A rare work by world-renowned Dutch master Vincent van Gogh that has been out of public view for more than 60 years will be auctioned at Sotheby's in New York on November 18, according to Reuters.

The painting is estimated to fetch around US$180 million and could set a new auction record for a Van Gogh work, it is said.

The painting, titled "Chestnut Trees in Blossom" ("Châtaigniers en fleurs"), was painted in May 1890 and depicts a large chestnut tree in full bloom. It is also one of the important paintings created during the final period before Van Gogh's death.

Van Gogh died about two months after painting it, at the age of 37 in the French village of Auvers-sur-Oise.

At this auction, in addition to this painting, a total of 12 artworks that have not been shown to the public for many years will be sold, including works by world-famous painters Paul Cézanne and Claude Monet, it is known.

Hundreds of people queued in Hong Kong on October 13 to view the "Chestnut Trees in Blossom" painting, and it has been drawing interest from the art world even before the auction.
