Zelensky Urges Trump to Pressure China to End Russia's Invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to pressure Chinese President Xi Jinping and use China's influence over Russia to bring the more than four-and-a-half-year-long Russian invasion to a diplomatic end.

Zelensky, who is in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly, met and held talks with Trump on September 22, and while the White House has not yet commented on the outcome of the Trump-Xi talks, it is hoped that an answer will emerge soon.

At the same time, Zelensky said Washington is preparing to hold trilateral talks at the representative level between the United States, Ukraine and Russia in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and that a date is being awaited.

The Kremlin side has also said that the two leaders have discussed holding such talks, but President Putin has responded that decisions will be made with Russia's interests as the priority.

The Ukrainian president also urged that the sanctions bill against Russia, approved by the U.S. Congress and signed by the president, be brought into force as quickly as possible as a weapon that will bring Putin to the negotiating table.

In addition, it is understood that President Trump approved granting a license to produce U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems, which are in short supply due to the Iran war, in Ukraine itself, and also discussed with relevant regional leaders the possibility of reopening the Black Sea trade route.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union (EU) will continue to provide support for the financial deficit, and there are plans to raise funds for weapons purchases through technology exchange and joint drone production.

On the battlefield, airstrikes on the night of September 25 killed five people, including a 14-year-old child, in the capital Kyiv, while on the Russian side, one person was killed and two oil refineries were damaged by Ukraine's long-range drones, according to mutual statements released by both sides.
