500-pound bomb directly hits Mytel tower, phone lines down
September 19
In Minbu Township, Thayet District, Magway Region, the military junta dropped two 500-pound bombs in an attack, causing phone lines to go down across all four townships in Thayet District, with WiFi connections also failing, it is learned.
On the evening of September 17, the military junta dropped two 500-pound bombs on Kyatgyi Village, Kanpaing Village Tract, near Mezali Village in Minbu Township; one landed in a paddy field and the other struck a Mytel tower, it is learned.
"One 500-pound bomb hit the tower and fuel from the tower's fuel tank spilled out to the side; one bomb landed in the paddy field near the Kyatgyi and Mezali bridge. There were no casualties," a local news source said.
Because the tower was bombed, WiFi and phone lines went down in Thayet, Kanma, and Minbu townships in Thayet District, and as of today, September 19, phone lines are still intermittent, it is said.
"Since the night of the 17th, all Mytel phone lines went down. As for WiFi, it shows as connected but can't be used, and even when it works, it's only briefly," a Thayet resident said.
Also, around 4 p.m. on the evening of September 13, the military junta carried out an airstrike using two paramotors launched from the Thayet tactical operations command on Zun Kya Village in Minbu area, where even phone signals are unreliable, killing six people including young children and leaving eight others with serious injuries.
