Chinese Communist Party to tighten discipline and anti-corruption with loyalty as the priority
November 2
The Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has set loyalty to the party as the top priority in its official resolution to tighten internal party discipline, and announced that it will step up pressure to further tighten discipline enforcement and anti-corruption efforts within the party.
In the appointment and promotion of officials, approved in summary on October 29 and published by the state-run Xinhua News Agency on November 1, loyalty to the party will be the main criterion for scrutiny, and conduct, social relations and even the business activities of family members will also be monitored and examined, it said.
The resolution, which emerged ahead of a leadership change in which President Xi Jinping is likely to secure another five-year term, urges party leaders to monitor and scrutinize officials throughout their entire tenure.
In particular, officials' assets and the business activities of family members will be scrutinized, and proxy shareholdings and cross-border corruption involving cryptocurrency and technology will also be key targets for crackdowns, it said.
In addition, while the dominance of power by a single individual at the grassroots level is prohibited, at the central leadership level, it has been instructed to firmly defend President Xi Jinping's role as the "core leader."
Chinese President Xi Jinping said that only by continuing to fully tighten governance and discipline within the party and continuously eliminating problems that damage the party's image can the party's original nature, convictions and character be preserved, and China's communist system be passed down from generation to generation.
