It is reported that in Yangon and Mandalay cities, between September 30 and October 1, the abduction of young and middle-aged men for military service, as well as extortion, has been occurring continuously.
It is reported that at around 7:45 PM on September 30, at a grocery store near Khine Shwe Wah Street, Zeya Wati 1 Street, Ward 10 Taung, Thaketa Township, a man in his 20s was beaten and abducted by a group in plainclothes who had parked a car nearby and were lying in wait as he came out after buying a phone bill top-up, and was dragged into the car.
Sources say the abductors were members of a Pyu group from South Dagon, and the family members searched for him and had to pay 2.5 million kyats to secure his release.
Sources also say that this Pyu group is hunting down young and middle-aged people, detaining them in a building near Kankyithaung, and reselling them for military service.
Similarly, it is reported that at around 8 PM on October 1, at a betel nut shop in front of a Dhammayon at the end of Maggin Kyaung Road, Taungthu Kone Ward, Insein Township, 3 men in their 30s and 1 man in his 40s were abducted by a group that arrived in a van and 2 motorcycles.
It is reported that the group consisted of 2 police officers and about 5 plainclothes individuals, and all 4 men were handcuffed and taken away.
It is reported that at around 7 PM on October 1, between Ward 9 of East Dagon Township and North Dagon Township, near North Dagon People's Hospital by the lakeside, a man in his 40s was dragged into a car by a group and abducted.
It is said that the man was punched and beaten for struggling in the car, handcuffed, blindfolded with a cloth, and taken away. It is reported that later, an attempt was made to sell him to another group, but when that did not work out, he was sent to a military sergeant of the coup military.
It is reported that after interrogation, negotiations were made for his release, and he was brought back with his eyes still blindfolded and dropped off on a road within Mingaladon Township.
