Fighting Erupts in Villages Across Yayphyu Township, Many Villagers Displaced by War

Clashes are occurring in villages within Yebyu Township, with many villagers displaced by fighting, sources say

According to local sources, junta troops marching in columns into villages on the western bank of the Dawei River in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, have been surrounded and attacked, resulting in intense two-way clashes.

Local sources also said that starting September 23, a clash broke out between the junta military, which was advancing in a column toward Pugawzun Village on the western bank of Yebyu town, and revolutionary forces.

"While the military was stationed at Pugawzun Monastery, revolutionary forces dropped [bombs] with drones. There was also random firing from both sides. That column is now sweeping through the villages," a local war displaced person said.

On the morning of September 25, there were also two-way exchanges of fire between a military column advancing from Pugawzun Village toward the area between Kyaukhwetkhon Village and Peinshaung Village and revolutionary forces, a local source said.

"The fighting went on from the morning until after 3 p.m. The villagers had to flee. There were casualties and losses," a local war displaced person said.

It is reported that locals in Yebyu Township and in Myohaung Village Tract and Sakhangyi Village Tract in the north of Launglon Township, areas where the junta military's columns may pass through, are currently displaced by fighting.
