Five women faint from oxygen deprivation after generator was switched on during power outage at beauty salon

During a nationwide system breakdown, five women suffered breathing difficulties and fainted after a generator was switched on at a beauty salon in Sanchaung Township, Yangon, and had to be hospitalized as emergencies, it is learned.

At around 7 PM yesterday, September 19, at a nail salon on Htantadar Road in Sanchaung Township, a generator was switched on, causing five women to suffer breathing difficulties and faint, and they had to be sent to the emergency department of Yangon General Hospital, it is learned.

"Five people — both staff and customers — lost oxygen and fainted, so they had to be sent to the hospital. There is no life-threatening situation, though," a person close to the matter said.

The Future Light Charity Association provided assistance by transporting them to the emergency department of Yangon General Hospital with two ambulances, it is learned, and the Ministry of Electricity under the military junta announced that starting from around 5:30 PM on September 19, a nationwide system breakdown occurred and electricity was cut off.

In March 2024 as well, at a beauty salon in Sanchaung Township, during a power outage, a generator was switched on and the room door was closed, causing seven women including salon staff to feel dizzy and faint, and in May 2025 as well, in Sanchaung Township, Yangon Region, during a power outage, a family of four who switched on a generator and went to sleep, along with a pet dog, died from oxygen deprivation, it is learned.
