It is reported that one elderly man died after stepping on a landmine in Thabaung Township, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region.

On the morning of September 17, while going to cut firewood, he stepped on a landmine inside a coconut plantation near Set Daung Gyi Village, and one man over 50 years of age was killed, it is reported.

"We heard the explosion and went to look. There was nothing left of his body intact. They have planted landmines in places where people travel. The place where this happened is where the military came and set up camp a few days ago," a local resident said.

The deceased was U Hla Htay from Set Daung Gyi Village, and it is reported that he died with injuries all over his body.

The site of the mine explosion was a location where the military junta had set up camp around late August, and because landmines were also planted in taungya farms and paddy fields, local residents are living in fear and anxiety, it is reported.
