Aung San Suu Kyi's younger son, Ko Htein Lin, urges world leaders engaging with Min Aung Hlaing to show tangible results

Ko Htein Lin (also known as Kim Aris), the younger son of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has called on world leaders who are engaging with coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to prove their efforts with tangible results.

Ko Htein Lin pointed out that while world leaders engaging with Min Aung Hlaing have themselves called for an end to violence, for humanitarian aid access, for political dialogue and for the release of political prisoners, what has Min Aung Hlaing actually done?

He also said that violence and killings of civilians are still continuing to this day, and that his mother, 81-year-old Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, remains cut off from contact with the outside world and held incommunicado without being allowed to meet family members.

He urged the international community, if it believes that engagement with the coup leader can produce positive progress, to make the immediate release of his mother Daw Aung San Suu Kyi the first step and to prove it with tangible results.

Ko Htein Lin also warned and urged that red-carpet welcomes and handshakes are not genuine progress, and that only practical action on the ground constitutes progress, and that no legitimacy whatsoever should be granted to the coup military regime if it shows no accountability or responsibility.
