Singer Set Naing's body found in a mutilated state on the railway tracks beneath Tat Bridge
October 9
Singer Set Naing, who had been in hiding after receiving a military conscription summons, was found dead in a mutilated state on the railway tracks beneath the Tat Bridge on the expressway past the Taguntaing roundabout in Mandalay this morning, October 9, it is learned.
Singer Set Naing (aka Set Naing Tun), son of U Tar Tar Tun from No. (2) Sonkone Ward, Tat Tha Oo Township, Mandalay Region, had reached conscription age, so the Tat Tha Oo Township People's Military Conscription Board issued a summons on July 25 for him to register.
On July 28 at around 4 p.m., three people including soldiers under the junta that seized power and the ward administrator delivered the summons to Ko Set Naing's home in Tat Tha Oo Township, and Set Naing had fled from his home at around 2 a.m. that night.
The deceased singer Set Naing had recently exchanged words and quarreled on social media with celebrities A Thein Ko and Thamee Soe, and there were also challenges to meet in person, it is learned.
"While he was in hiding from home because of the conscription summons, Thamee Soe went live saying she would have Set Naing arrested, and they had mutual problems. In the conscription matter, Thamee Soe went live and incited A Thein Ko and Set Naing against each other, and that's how the two of them started having problems. Since Set Naing had only two sons, he later received a conscription exemption. After he returned home, the personal problem with A Thein Ko kept continuing," a friend close to Set Naing told MyoTaw.
It is learned that A Thein Ko, while singer Set Naing was evading conscription, had also tipped off police and the military about the places where he was hiding and had them hunt him down.
"Before the summons arrived, Set Naing had also had a problem with Lu Tha Han, the son of Aung Thamadi's owner. Thamee Soe is no longer in the country now, and as he and A Thein Ko had problems, and he was found dead at the very place where they had arranged to meet outside, most people are saying A Thein Ko did it," Set Naing's friend further said.
Regarding Set Naing's death, Oakkar Min Maung, who supports the junta that seized power, also wrote on social media: "Whether Set Naing was widely hated or not, should a single life be killed so ruthlessly? Was it necessary to the point of killing? This permanently destroys another person's family. That is too brutal, wicked, and malicious. I don't know him. We weren't close. I don't care what he did in his past. Because an LGBT person was inhumanly assassinated, I, as an LGBT person, will Speak Out so that no one else faces such a tragedy. May the 5 perpetrators who carried out the assassination, as well as the main mastermind who ordered it, receive the swiftest punishment of the law."
It is learned that the body of the late singer Set Naing will be cremated tomorrow, October 10, at Taung Inn/North Inn Cemetery in Mandalay, and Thamee Soe, who had previously had problems with him, has also called via social media for the truth about Set Naing's death to come to light.
