Heavy rain likely in coastal areas, while temperatures in central regions could reach up to 40°C, with extreme heat possible
October 16
Based on statements from the ICON model, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), meteorologist U Win Naing has forecast and assessed that a low-pressure vortex system has begun to strengthen and become active in the southern/central Bay of Bengal.
This system is expected to bring cloud banks moving in from the sea, resulting in increased rainfall in Tanintharyi Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, and southern Rakhine State between October 21 and 22, according to the forecast.
According to the latest assessment by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the likelihood of the system reaching storm status within the next 7 days has not yet been indicated. However, post-monsoon low-pressure cells could emerge in the southern Bay of Bengal, so it is necessary to continue monitoring changes in the system's intensity after October 22, it was stated.
In Tanintharyi Region, Mon State, Kayin State, Yangon Region, and Ayeyarwady Region, there could be evening thundershowers, brief strong wind gusts, and, due to the low-pressure system from the (southern) Bay of Bengal between October 21 and 22, heavy rainfall and potential tidal surges, it was stated.
In southern/eastern Shan State and Kayah State, humidity moving in from the Gulf of China and Laos, along with easterly wind patterns, could bring daily evening thundershowers, it was stated.
In Mandalay Region, Magway Region, and Bago Region (southern/eastern/western parts), daytime temperatures will be very hot, ranging from 36°C to 40°C, and in the afternoon/evening, due to heat clouds, there could be strong winds, lightning strikes, and scattered rain, it was stated.
In Sagaing Region (upper/lower parts), Kachin State, and Chin State, the likelihood of rain is low, and the weather will generally be fair, it was stated.
In Magway Region, Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region (lower part), and Nay Pyi Taw, daily temperatures will be very high, and especially between October 18 and 21, temperatures in Magway and Sagaing (lower part) could rise to record highs of 38°C to 40°C, it was stated.
Due to the high heat intensity, daytime heat will be excessive, and in the evening/night, heat clouds may form, potentially causing brief, scattered thundershowers accompanied by strong winds and lightning, it was stated.
In Yangon Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Bago Region, Tanintharyi Region, Mon State, and Kayin State, inland temperatures will be hot, ranging from 35°C to 38°C, and in areas near the coast, humidity will be high, potentially raising the heat index further, it was stated.
In Tanintharyi Region, Mon State, and Kayin State, due to cloud banks moving in from the east, there is a chance of scattered evening thundershowers, it was stated.
In Kachin State, Sagaing (upper part), Shan State, and Chin State, temperatures will be normal compared to the central regions, and in most upper areas, the weather will be fair with moderate cloud cover, it was stated.
In southern and eastern Shan State, due to cloud banks moving in from northern Thailand, there is a chance of scattered thundershowers, it was stated.
According to data from the ICON model, temperatures in Magway Region, Sagaing Region (lower part), Mandalay Region, and Bago Region are running higher than normal, at around 36°C to 40°C, and heat intensity could be severe, meteorologist U Win Naing has forecast and assessed.
