Administrator who had drawn lots for conscription killed with a knife by someone who had previously been conscripted and was dissatisfied
July 7
In Kunlong Village, Aunglan Township, Magway Region, a fatal stabbing of a village administrator occurred due to dissatisfaction over having been selected for conscription, according to reports.
On the afternoon of July 5, near the entrance of Kunlong Village in Praloitai Sub-township, Aunglan Town, a young man from Kyauksegyo Village, who had previously been conscripted as a former soldier, ambushed and stabbed to death the village administrator, who was riding a motorcycle alone outside the village, with a knife, sources said.
"I heard it was a young man who had been conscripted and then bought his way out who did the stabbing. The administrator was really colluding with soldiers to conscript people and extort money. He acted out of resentment over that issue," a local told MyoTaw.
The victim was identified as U Aye Han, 70, the administrator of Kunlong Village. He died from knife wounds to his arm and head. The assailant is a man in his 30s from Kyauksegyo Village, according to reports.
"Around here, the administrators are the same old ones; there are no new ones. Even when re-elected, it's the same people doing it. They team up with soldiers who joined the army out of hunger, go into villages to threaten and conscript people, demand 'line fees' from two- or three-wheeled vehicle operators, and do anything they can to make money. The administrator of Moe Kone Village was also killed around the beginning of last year," another local added.
Currently, the junta is searching for the young man who killed the administrator, and the deceased administrator was buried in the village cemetery on the evening of July 6, according to reports.
