Co-pilot Attempts to Crash Plane by Stabbing Captain

October 1

An incident occurred on September 30 aboard a Flydubai flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel, where the co-pilot stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane.

Due to the incident, the aircraft reportedly plunged suddenly from an altitude of nearly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds.

Later, passengers and crew members entered the cockpit and managed to subdue the co-pilot, allowing two reserve pilots on board to safely make an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

The flight was carrying 174 passengers, most of whom were Israeli citizens, and more than 10 hours after the incident, they safely returned to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on another flight, it was reported.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu described the incident as a severe security event and praised the actions of the passengers who intervened to prevent a worse disaster.

Israeli authorities have confirmed that the co-pilot who attempted to crash the plane is an Omani citizen, and the motive behind the incident is still under investigation, it was reported.

Currently, Saudi authorities are interrogating the co-pilot, while Flydubai airline has urged against making hasty speculations since the cause of the incident is not yet known.
