Agreement Reached to Expand and Station U.S. Military Forces in Greenland

President Donald Trump announced on September 18 that an agreement has been reached between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland to significantly expand and station U.S. military forces on Greenland and to prevent rival countries from establishing bases there.

Under this agreement, the United States will gain increased military operational access on Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark, and rival countries of the United States will no longer be permitted to undertake significant investments without authorization, it was stated.

President Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social that this is a dream come true for America, and since the agreement has no expiration date, the United States has secured the permanent ability to address the security needs of both the United States and Greenland.

Regarding this agreement, the Danish Prime Minister's Office and Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen also commented that it strengthens the security of the North Atlantic and Arctic region and is a decision beneficial to all.

Similarly, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that Washington's national security concerns regarding Greenland have been fully addressed.

According to an official from the U.S. State Department, countries that are not members of NATO (NATO) have been prohibited from establishing bases in Greenland, and only the United States and allied countries are permitted to make significant investments.

Furthermore, even if Greenland becomes an independent nation in the future, permanent U.S. access, basing rights, and overflight rights will continue to remain in place, it was stated.
