The Mawlamyine Township General Administration Department has instructed massage parlors in Mawlamyine, Mon State, to record guest lists if customers receive overnight massages, it is learned.

Starting September 19, a specific directive was issued to massage parlors, and since visitors to Mawlamyine who stay at guesthouses must register on guest lists, they instead stay only at massage parlors that do not require guest registration and receive overnight massages and sleep there, which is why the directive was issued, it is learned.

"When people come from villages to town, they get overnight massages at massage parlors and stay there. Since staying at guesthouses requires actual guest registration, they don't stay there," said an administrative department staff member under the military junta that seized power.

A directive has been issued requiring that all persons staying at massage parlors and KTVs until past midnight must be recorded on guest lists, and it is also learned that Mawlamyine has imposed a nighttime curfew from midnight to 4 a.m.

In addition, it is learned that there have been incidents in Mawlamyine where people traveling after designated hours have been arrested, beaten, and extorted for money.
