General and Police Dismantle General Statue Under Security in Kamama

In Kamma Town, General's Statue Destroyed Under Security Provided by General Administration Department and Police

July 6

In Magway Region, Thayet District, Kamma Town, a group of unidentified individuals came and destroyed the bronze statue of General, according to reports.

Around 10 PM on July 5, the bronze statue of General, which was collectively cast during the NLD party era and located next to the football field in Kamma Town, Thayet District, Magway Region, was demolished by individuals under the security cover of the General Administration Department and police, sources said.

"Around 10 PM, the whole town had its power cut off, and then vehicles entered the town. I don't know who they were. They used hammers and crowbars to strike the statue and then pulled it down with vehicles. At that time, the hospital also had its power cut. The roads were blocked by police and the General Administration Department, providing security. From the hospital, you could clearly see the General's statue. Now, both the statue and the platform are gone. Doing this just before Martyrs' Day is quite disgraceful," a local resident told MyoTaw.

According to some locals, it is understood that before Martyrs' Day, all bronze statues of General cast during the NLD era across Myanmar are to be destroyed. Additionally, it is reported that orders include auctioning off previously sealed NLD offices and sealed houses, with proceeds to be contributed to the state fund.
