Taunggyi City Development Committee Cracks Down on Beggars Under Elimination Plan

In Taunggyi, southern Shan State, authorities have begun arresting beggars and are also set to start culling stray dogs, according to reports.

Starting August 26, the Taunggyi Municipal Committee has been using a vehicle to round up and arrest beggars as part of a plan to eliminate street begging, sources said.

"Beggars are causing disturbances for people moving around the city, so this is why they are being cleared out. I heard that after the first arrest and signing a pledge, they will take action against repeat offenders," a local resident told MyoTaw.

The Taunggyi Township Municipal Department is implementing this plan due to the increasing number of beggars, and on August 29, they will also begin poisoning stray dogs along the streets, according to reports.
