July 6
According to a statement from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression that moved from the northwestern Bay of Bengal was centered over southern Jharkhand state in India and adjacent northern Odisha state at around 6:30 AM Myanmar Standard Time today, July 6.
The depression is expected to continue moving northwestward within the next 24 hours, further entering inland India. However, due to the lingering effects of the storm's remnants in the Bay of Bengal, cloud formations are strongly drawing in monsoon winds towards Myanmar.
According to a statement from the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), the storm weakened from a tropical storm to a tropical depression this morning, July 6, and has reached the Guangxi region of China. It is forecast to move north-northeastward and further weaken into a low-pressure area over southern China.
Regarding the indirect weather impacts on Myanmar, meteorologist U Win Naing has assessed that cloud cover will be strong across the entire country, with a high likelihood of thundercloud formation, especially in coastal and northern regions.
For the five-day period from July 7 to July 11, rainfall forecasts indicate that Rakhine State could receive between 200 and over 450 millimeters of rain, with very heavy and continuous downpours expected in coastal and northern areas.
In Upper Sagaing Region, due to strong monsoon surges, rainfall could be very heavy at 220 to 320 millimeters, with prolonged heavy rain. In Chin State and Mon State, rainfall of 150 to 280 millimeters is expected, with heavy rain in mountainous areas.
In the remaining regions and states, including Kachin State, Kayin State, Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, Bago Region, and Tanintharyi Region, conditions range from moderate to good rainfall, with thunderstorms possible in Ayeyarwady Region.
In Shan State (South/North), Lower Sagaing Region, and Naypyidaw, only light to moderate rain is expected. In Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Shan State (East), and Kayah State, rainfall is forecast to be between 15 and 65 millimeters, according to meteorologist U Win Naing.
