July 13
Meteorologist U Win Naing has forecast and analyzed that within the next 7 days, due to the influence of a stronger-than-normal southwest monsoon and a potential low-pressure area forming in the northern Bay of Bengal near the Bangladesh coast, continuous rainfall could begin in Rakhine coastal areas within the next 48 hours. The total rainfall within a week could reach a record high of over 400 millimeters.
It is also reported that Kachin State and Tanintharyi Region could receive total rainfall of around 300 millimeters due to the direct influx of monsoon winds.
Upper Sagaing Region, Chin State, and delta regions such as Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, and southern Bago Region may experience prolonged normal monsoon rains, and due to the possibility of flooding, a cautionary situation is in place.
Central Myanmar regions including Magway Region, Mandalay Region, and the Shan Plateau (southern/eastern), as well as Kayah State, are located in the rain shadow areas of the Rakhine Yoma and Bago Yoma ranges. Therefore, rainfall is expected to remain weak for the next 3 days, with only a slight increase possible after 5 days due to inland wind currents.
In upper Myanmar and mountainous regions such as Kachin State, Chin State, and Upper Sagaing Region, continuous heavy rainfall is likely within 3 to 5 days, with a probability of rain being almost certain at over 85 percent.
Due to the possibility of unusually heavy rainfall in the upper Ayeyarwady River region, flooding of the Ayeyarwady and Chindwin rivers is expected within the next 5 to 7 days.
While Lower Sagaing Region and Bago Region may experience moderate rainfall, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, and Naypyidaw are expected to mainly have hot and humid weather, with rain days remaining sparse.
Meteorologist U Win Naing has warned that the week from July 13 to 20 is a period requiring special attention to flood risks for the western coastal and northern regions.
