Trump urges voters to back Republicans in upcoming election, accusing Democrats of being "communists"
September 17
US President Donald Trump criticized the Democratic Party as soft on crime and communism, and accused Democratic Party members of being "communists."
Trump made the remarks on September 16 at a campaign rally in North Carolina for Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley ahead of the November 3 special election.
During the rally, Trump portrayed Democrats as people pushing the United States to become a communist country, and also criticized the policy under former Governor Roy Cooper that released 3,500 prisoners during the COVID period.
"You've got to crush the communists, they really are communists. Our country must not become a socialist country," Trump said.
In the upcoming November 3 special election, all 435 House seats as well as 35 Senate seats will be contested, and according to current projections, Democrats have a chance to retake control of the House, while the Senate is in a situation where both sides will have to fight fiercely.
In North Carolina, unaffiliated voters make up about 40 percent of total registered voters, making them an important voter group in the election.
Trump's influence remains strong among Republican loyalists, but for Michael Whatley to win, he needs to win over moderate voters in North Carolina.
Currently, support for Trump among moderate voters has been declining due to high commodity prices and the cost-of-living problem.
Trump is not himself running in the upcoming election, but he has again urged voters, as he said at a conference in Dallas last week, to "think of it as voting for me and cast your ballots."
