Mother and daughter domestic workers arrested for killing host and looting jewelry

It is learned that a mother and daughter who worked as domestic helpers were arrested for killing an elderly female homeowner and looting jewelry and mobile phones in Botataung Township, Yangon Region.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 PM on September 7, and it is learned that Daw Thein Myint, 74, a resident of No. (8) Ward, Botataung Township, was killed by domestic helper Daw Tin Nwe, 58, and her daughter Aye Myat Moe (aka Su Su), 17, who covered Daw Thein Myint's face with a pillow and blanket in the living room in front of the house and killed her, then looted and made off with one pair of diamond earrings, one platinum necklace, one SAMSUNG A20 mobile phone, and one SAMSUNG tablet that she was wearing.

The husband of the slain woman, U Khin Maung, filed a complaint, and it is learned that on the afternoon of September 8 yesterday, the two suspects were arrested at the "Aung Chan Thar" bus terminal at the highway bus yard in Kyaungmei town, along with one SAMSUNG A20 mobile phone, one SAMSUNG tablet, and 245 lakh kyats in cash as evidence.

It is learned that the suspects are natives of Kakaran village, Labutta Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and had entered to work as domestic helpers only about over a month ago.

According to the suspects' statements, due to financial need, they killed Daw Thein Myint on the afternoon of September 7 while the homeowner U Khin Maung was at his bakery in No. (3) Ward, and looted the items, it is learned.
