16-Year-Old Man Missing After Drowning in Lashio Lake

A young man has gone missing after drowning in the old Kyauktang Chaing pond in Ward (1), Thiri Maha, Lashio Township, Shan State, and search operations are underway.

At around 10:00 AM on August 21, a 16-year-old male youth went into the old Kyauktang Chaing pond in Ward (1), Thiri Maha, to bathe and drowned, disappearing in the water.

"It's an old pond, and the depth inside is about two bamboo lengths deep. The bottom is uneven. If you bathe near the edge, there's no problem. Children used to bathe here before; this just happened now. The pond isn't very wide. Some of the people doing the search now have been injured and hurt," a local resident said.

Search and rescue teams have been looking to recover the body until this morning, August 22, and the search has been delayed due to rainfall, according to reports.
