Local residents recover and bury bodies of soldiers from military convoy that came under attack en route to Bhamo
September 6
After the junta's military vessels heading to reinforce Bhamo came under attack, local residents living along the riverbanks have been recovering and burying the bodies of fallen soldiers, it has been learned.
Since September 4, residents living along the riverbanks have been finding bodies of junta troops floating down the Irrawaddy River daily following clashes between Shwegu and Sin Khan, according to reports.
"Bodies with military insignia have been floating down — we don't know how many have died. As of today, more than 10 bodies have been found in the Htee Chaing area. Bodies wearing bulletproof vests probably won't float to the surface. Some bodies have been recovered and buried," a local resident said.
While junta supporters claim the bodies are those of local river workers, the arm patches and uniforms bear the insignia of the junta military, it has been learned.
