Min Aung Hlaing's presence in Vietnam sparks fears of impending disasters

September 4

Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Kyu Kyu Hla departed today, September 4, for a two-day visit to Vietnam, according to reports.

Min Aung Hlaing will be in Vietnam from September 4 to September 6, and Myanmar citizens are expressing concerns that some disaster may befall Vietnam during his stay.

"Whether you call these coincidences, wherever this ill-omened figure goes, misfortune follows. It's not just a one-time thing. During his previous trip to Thailand, there were school shootings, vehicles ramming into school buildings with young children, protests against the Pheu Thai government, attacks in all three districts, and fires in Bangkok — these happened both while he was there and after he left, almost continuously. Now that he's in Vietnam, I fear something will happen there too," Myanmar citizens are saying and posting on social media.

After his Vietnam trip, junta chief Min Aung Hlaing is also scheduled to visit Cambodia from September 11 to 12, according to reports.

Including the Vietnam and Cambodia trips, Min Aung Hlaing has visited up to four ASEAN member countries within three months, and the Cambodia trip scheduled for September 11 will be his eighth foreign visit.
