Myanmar junta Deputy Home Minister admits Hsipaw bridge remains closed because the regime does not have full control over Hsipaw Township

On the 31st day of the third regular session of the junta's parliament, U Kaung Thet San from Hsipaw constituency asked whether there is a plan to reopen the Hsipaw bridge, which is located between Pantin Taung ward and Pan Sauk Maing village tract in Hsipaw town, Kyaukme District, Shan State.

In response, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Brigadier General Min Thu, stated that due to the current security situation, the regime only has territorial control over Hsipaw town's 11 wards and 9 village tract groups. Since the MNDAA, TNLA, and PDF forces have not fully withdrawn but are operating and moving around on the far side of the Hsipaw bridge and in the remaining village tracts, the Hsipaw bridge has been temporarily closed for security reasons.

During Operation 1027, the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) had seized control of Hsipaw town and the bridge. However, under pressure from the Chinese government, they handed it back to the junta military in October 2025.

Due to the continued closure of the Hsipaw bridge, locals are forced to cross the Duthawadi River using boats and rafts, paying a ferry fee ranging from 5,000 to around 50,000 kyats per person depending on the goods. This has led to rising commodity prices in the region, according to reports.
