According to local sources, a group of henchmen from the coup military smashed and destroyed the bronze statue of General Aung San located at the entrance of Thutekone village, south of the Ahara Thukha Market in Pyinmana Township, Naypyidaw.

It is reported that around 2:30 a.m. on July 18, a group of at least 15 people, acting as henchmen for the coup military, brought rock-breaking machines and crowbars to destroy the bronze statue of General Aung San at the entrance of Thutekone village.

During the destruction of the General's bronze statue, about 10 armed individuals were reportedly providing security in the surrounding area.

Due to the high number of supporters of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in the vicinity of the statue, locals are reportedly too frightened and anxious to speak out about the incident.

The coup military also destroyed and removed statues of the General in Singu, Tagaung, and Mogok towns in Mandalay Region on the night of July 15, and on the night of July 1, they had previously toppled and destroyed bronze statues of the General at Thumingala Park in South Okkalapa Township and at Myakantah Park in Thaketa Township, Yangon.
