Two Dead After Car Plunges into Lake in Naypyidaw

Naypyidaw, Dekkhinathiri Township – A private car reportedly plunged into a roadside lake after speeding out of control, resulting in the deaths of one man and one woman.

At approximately 9:10 AM today, August 28, a private car lost control and fell into a natural lake beside the road in Htan Ta Pin, Kyauk Myet Wun, Dekkhinathiri Township. One man and one woman who were in the vehicle became trapped inside and drowned, according to reports.

"We don't know how it happened. When we went to look, the car was in the water. Rescue teams arrived, but the lake was full of water and they couldn't make it in time," said an eyewitness.

At the scene, one search and rescue vehicle from the Naypyidaw Dekkhina District Fire Station, one fire engine from the Dekkhinathiri Township Fire Station, and one fire engine from the Shwe Kyar Pin Area Fire Station arrived to retrieve the car. The bodies were reportedly sent to the mortuary at Naypyidaw's 1,000-bed Public Hospital.
