MyoTaw: Heavy Monsoon Rains to Persist Along Myanmar Coast and Mountain Regions

Monsoon winds remain strong, so heavy continuous rain may occur in Myanmar's coastal and mountainous regions

July 7

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announcement on July 7, the low-pressure area that was located in northern Chhattisgarh, India, has moved further and weakened into a strong low-pressure trough in the eastern and surrounding regions, it is reported. The system will continue to move slowly west-northwestward and weaken further within the next 24 hours, it is stated.

Although the ongoing inland low-pressure trough may reach central India and gradually weaken, its influence will cause the southwest monsoon winds to remain strong over the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, it is reported.

Regarding the weather conditions that may affect Myanmar, meteorologist U Win Naing has assessed and predicted that since monsoon currents are still directly entering the Rakhine coast and southern coastal regions of Myanmar, cloud cover is dense across the country, and there is a possibility of heavy continuous rain in coastal and mountainous areas.

As for rainfall forecasts for the coming week, it is stated that Rakhine State may receive total rainfall exceeding 450 millimeters, with very heavy rain possible.

Tanintharyi Region may receive total rainfall exceeding 350 millimeters, with heavy rain possible, while Mon State and Kayin State may receive total rainfall around 300 millimeters, with heavy rain possible, it is stated.

Kachin State and Sagaing Region (Upper) may receive total rainfall around 250 millimeters, with heavy rain possible, it is stated.

Yangon Region, Ayeyarwady Region, and Bago Region may receive total rainfall around 200 millimeters, with moderate to heavy rain possible, it is stated.

Chin State, Shan State, and Kayah State may receive total rainfall around 150 millimeters, with moderate rain possible, it is stated.

Mandalay Region, Magway Region, and Naypyidaw may receive total rainfall of only about 60 to 80 millimeters, so only light to moderate rain is possible, meteorologist U Win Naing has assessed and predicted.
