In Yangon Region, North Okkalapa Township, Shwepaukkan New Town, an incident occurred where a mother and son riding an electric bicycle to pick up a Grade-3 student from school in the evening were hit by a car from behind after their bicycle fell, according to reports.
The incident took place around 5:30 PM on August 26 on Bagan Main Road, Ward (12), Shwepaukkan New Town. The Grade-3 student died at the scene, and the mother sustained serious injuries, it has been reported.
According to the incident, while the mother and son were riding the bicycle back, a car parked by the roadside opened its door without looking back, causing the bicycle to collide and fall, after which a Dyna truck coming from behind ran over them.
"The incident is true. They were returning from picking up the child from Basic Education Branch School (10). The child was a Grade-3 student. He died at the scene. The mother is receiving medical treatment at North Okkalapa Hospital. It's heartbreaking to hear," said a local resident.
The deceased child has been identified as Grade-3 student Maung Pyay Thu Ta. Currently, the Dyna truck driver, U Nan U Maung, has been arrested and charged at Shwepaukkan Police Station, with legal action being taken, according to reports.
