Iran's government is preparing to hold a week-long national mourning ceremony for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during a military attack by the United States and Israel, according to reports.

The funeral will begin in Tehran, followed by public processions in Qom and Mashhad, as well as memorial ceremonies in Iraq, officials said.

Iranian authorities have reportedly arranged transportation, accommodation, and food services to accommodate millions of supporters expected to attend.

After Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death, his son Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded him as Iran's Supreme Leader, but he was severely injured in the same attack that killed his father and has not appeared in public since, sources said.

Observers note that many Iranians have grown disillusioned with the government due to economic sanctions and repression under the guise of revolution. When news of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death broke, celebrations and cheers erupted in some parts of Tehran, according to reports.

Currently, Tehran is described as tense and subdued, a stark contrast to the scene in 1989 when millions mourned the death of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Some Tehran residents say they have no plans to attend the funeral and are preparing to temporarily leave the city with their families, as the streets are filled with Basij militia loyal to the Iranian government.
