Burmese people and human rights activists in Thailand protested in front of the United Nations office in Bangkok this afternoon, August 6, against coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in Thailand, according to reports.

At the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans including "We do not welcome criminal Min Aung Hlaing," "Down with military leaders," and "Achieve federal democracy," according to reports.

Sixteen Thai civil society organizations issued a joint statement opposing the two-day visit of coup leader Min Aung Hlaing to Thailand.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Sihasak said that matters requiring discussion and cooperation between the two countries include border security, combating cross-border crimes, online scam syndicates, and border region issues including water and air pollution.

Mr. Sihasak pointed out that concrete actions and evidence are needed to demonstrate progress in addressing the cross-border haze pollution problem, and noted that he plans to visit the region together with the coup government's foreign minister.

Sihasak announced that Min Aung Hlaing's visit to Thailand was to strengthen ties and push for Myanmar's return to ASEAN. He also welcomed the meeting between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and ICRC representatives, expressing hope that it could pave the way for ASEAN representatives to gain access.
