MyoTaw: Typhoon Yagi Causes Fatalities in China, Tens of Thousands Evacuated

In China, Typhoon Maysak causes deaths and tens of thousands evacuated

July 7

In southern China, Typhoon Maysak has caused dam breaches and emergency situations.

In Nanning, Guangxi Province, two people died due to the typhoon, and approximately 55,000 people have been affected by flooding. Due to overflow and breaches at three reservoirs, about 48,000 people were urgently evacuated to safety.

Chinese authorities have raised the flood prevention emergency response to the highest level. In nearby cities like Guigang and Fangchenggang, conditions worsened to the point where roads were flooded, and cars and motorcycles were swept away in the water.

Additionally, in northern China's Inner Mongolia and Liaoning Province, heavy rain and flash floods caused five more deaths.

At the same time, China has issued a warning for Super Typhoon Bavi, which is heading toward Taiwan from the Pacific Ocean at 180 miles per hour. This storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to eastern China.

Experts point out that severe weather events caused by climate change could cost China's trade industry billions of US dollars annually in damages.

China's Meteorological Department has warned that in the coming days, thunderstorms could continue to intensify in regions such as Guangxi, Guizhou, and Hunan, where over 150 million people live.
