Russia preparing to bring in another 30,000 North Korean soldiers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on July 25 that Russia is planning to bring in up to 30,000 additional North Korean troops to replenish its forces during the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has lasted over four years, and has already begun preparations to receive these units.

Under a joint defense agreement signed between Russia and North Korea, nearly 14,000 North Korean soldiers were deployed to Russia's Kursk region in 2024 to help repel a major Ukrainian offensive.

"We continue to see cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Russia wants to bring in another 30,000 North Korean soldiers, and we have seen that preparations to receive these units began as early as June in Russia's Voronezh region," Zelensky said in his regular nightly video address.

He also stated that North Korea is preparing to supply new missile launchers for Russia.

"This action is not just a threat to Ukraine alone. Russia is teaching North Korea how to wage war, helping it improve its weapons capabilities and gain real battlefield experience. These are becoming a major threat to every country in the Asian region within reach of North Korean missiles," the Ukrainian president warned.
