Former U.S. President Donald Trump on July 22 urged supporters in Georgia to push for stricter voting regulations nationwide, according to reports.

However, Trump's claims about election security have sparked concerns among some party members, as they could potentially harm the Republican Party in the upcoming U.S. Senate elections.

The rally, held outside Atlanta, came after months of sustained attacks on Georgia's election system following Trump's defeat in the 2020 election. This year alone, Trump has questioned Georgia's voting system at least nine times.

At the July 22 event, Trump again alleged that irregularities make it difficult for Republicans to win, and he urged supporters to pressure Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pass stricter voting legislation.

However, some Republicans in Georgia worry that Trump's rhetoric could discourage voters from casting ballots in the upcoming November midterm elections, potentially leading to losses.

Eric Johnson, a former Republican leader in the Georgia Senate and state chair of the election protection group RightCount, said, "Whenever President Trump casts doubt on the integrity of the election process, his supporters are less likely to go to the polls."
