US Warns It Will Not Tolerate Hybrid Warfare Attacks on NATO Allies

US warns it will not tolerate hybrid warfare attacks against NATO member states

September 6

The United States will not tolerate deliberate hybrid warfare tactics and attacks against NATO member states, and will stand firmly with allied nations facing such incidents, said US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.

The Berlin government has accused Russia of being behind an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany last August.

Whitaker said that incident is more concerning than Russian drone incursions into NATO member states that have occurred as a diversion from the war in Ukraine.

He urged NATO member states to remain vigilant and prepared to face such challenges, and to respond with clear warnings when incidents occur.

Whitaker also said that just as Germany was able to identify who was behind the Leipzig incident, once those responsible for such actions are identified, it must be made unequivocally clear that such conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

He added that critical infrastructure, including the energy sector, could be targeted, so relevant countries should monitor and protect it.

While national action by the countries concerned will be key in responding to such threats, the US Ambassador to NATO said the United States will stand firmly alongside allied nations facing such incidents.
