Unknown armed group abducts irrigation department official in Nyaung-U Township

In Mandalay Region's Nyaung-U Township, an official from the irrigation department under the junta government was abducted by an unidentified armed group at around 3 p.m. on September 3, according to sources.

U Zin Min Htike, an electrical engineer and chief officer from the Nyaung-U District Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, was seized by an unidentified armed group that had been lying in wait near Naukkyo Inn village in Bagan while he was returning by motorcycle from the Lawkananda river water pumping project, sources said.

"He was abducted on his way back home from Bagan. They must have known he was coming and waited to capture him. It's said they ambushed him near Naukkyo Inn village," a local resident said.

As of the evening of September 5, no information had been obtained regarding the abducted Ko Zin Min Htike, and the junta government side is said to be conducting searches and working toward his release.
