Junta airstrike destroys Sin Kyan Bridge in Bhamo Township

The military junta carried out an airstrike on September 6, destroying the Sin Kyan Bridge near Sin Kyan village in Bhamo Township, Kachin State, according to reports.

The Sin Kyan Bridge, located on the Katha-Bhamo road, was attacked with jet fighter airstrikes, damaging the upper section of the bridge and some of its pillars, sources said.

"The steel frames of the bridge are bent. The bomb blast created a large hole on the top part of the bridge — it went straight through to the bottom. No people were hurt. It hit near the stairs leading up to the bridge," a local resident said.

On September 5, a military junta warship also docked near Sin Kyan village and launched a ground offensive into the village, resulting in casualties on both sides, according to reports.

Junta supporters have been claiming online that the airstrike was carried out because KIA and PDF forces were using the bridge as a vantage point to ambush warships transporting reinforcements to Bhamo, where bunkers had been built on the bridge. Meanwhile, others say the junta resorted to bombing the bridge because it had suffered heavy losses to its warships near Sin Kyan Bridge and was facing military setbacks.

Recently, after the junta dispatched a group of warships to Bhamo, more than 30 additional naval vessels from Mandalay's Gaw Win port have been sent toward Bhamo town, according to reports.
